Discussions

PROV-O

  • Was chaotic (as of ISWC).
  • Good traction last two weeks - got qualified involvements approved by OWL subgroup
  • Need to work out proposal for Accounts (will need coordination with RDF 1.1 WG)
  • Satya said he updated the PROV-O HTML
  • Tim needs IOGDS out of the way to get back on top of PROV-O (it's in a "good direction" from the last two weeks)
  • Jim is concerned about the final design (WG is avoiding abstractions)
    • Tim agrees, but it's the best we can get from them now, and we can use the current approved design to argue it would be better with IPVOf.

PNNL

Paulo moves to PNNL starting Jan 1, 2012

Paulo: how to use FRIR with PML? Wants more documentation for FRIR in general.

Paulo: How does csv2rdf4lod fit into DataAnnotator at UTEP?

Paulo going to PNNL in two weeks.

https://github.com/timrdf/csv2rdf4lod-automation/wiki/FRBR points to https://github.com/timrdf/csv2rdf4lod-automation/wiki/frbr%3Amccusker2012parallel

Licensing?

  • MIT
  • "cannibalism"  licenses? is "bad" according to PNNL.
    • Mozilla license does cannibalism
  • GNU licenses are viral - requires any derivative works adopt same license.
  • Jim likes Apache version 2; "updated" BSD license which is similar to MIT license.
    • friendlier for those who want to use for commercial purposes.
  • "advertising" clauses
    • todo - paulo send email to deborah with the licenses you are thinking about using for the open source software
    • todo - paulo find out who from pnnl - kersten and immediate group

FRBR

http://archive.ifla.org/VII/s13/frbr/frbr1.htm#3.2

"a distinct intellectual or artistic creation."

"A work is an abstract entity; there is no single material object one can point to as the work.  We recognize the work through individual realizations or expressions of the work, but the work itself exists only in the commonality of content between and among the various expressions of the work."

Tim is pml:Information frbr:Manifestation? Jim: nope.

Paulo, the two tools are described at the bottom of https://github.com/timrdf/csv2rdf4lod-automation/wiki/frbr%3Amccusker2012parallel

Paulo points out that scalability will be a concern in the future. (Tim wonders how expensive computing the digests will be)

Coordination page for PROV-O subgroup: http://www.w3.org/2011/prov/wiki/PIL_OWL_Ontology#Materials

New URL for the PROV-O OWL ontology (will be updated at same URL): http://dvcs.w3.org/hg/prov/file/tip/ontology/component-aggregations/prov.owl

FRIR stacks + inferencesteps.

Please send bullets to deborah on capabilities and strengths of the RPI team that we could leverage in FUSE or any project that needs explanation
